Some people may have been put off from having a genetic test and missing a diagnosis and possible treatment for serious illnesses, such as cancer, because of concerns the results of the test may exclude them from obtaining insurance cover.
Life insurers are currently banned from requiring applicants for insurance to disclose the results of any genetic tests they may have and this ban will last until June 30th 2024 when it will be reviewed.
