Our Surrogacy Insurance Philosophy

Why We Refuse to Cut Corners

At Unusual Risks, we believe that embarking on an altruistic surrogacy journey in Australia is one of the most profound acts of trust and love a family can experience.

Because of the deep emotional and physical stakes involved, we refuse to treat surrogacy insurance as a transactional, bureaucratic box-ticking exercise required by a solicitor.

We do not write cut-price, high-risk policies. And here is why.

1. We Protect Ecosystems, Not Checklists

A surrogacy journey is not a short-term contract; it is a delicate family ecosystem. Many Intended Parents (IPs) come to us looking for a "plug-and-play" policy just to satisfy legal requirements before embryo transfer.

However, insuring a surrogate for "accident-only" events during the pregnancy term alone does not eliminate risk. It simply leaves gaping holes in the security of the future child, the surrogate, and her own family. We design frameworks that protect everyone involved for the long haul.

2. No ‘Light Switch’ Insurance

Pregnancy and IVF complications do not respect a standard delivery room timeline. Physical, hormonal, and psychological changes can manifest 6, 12, or even 18 months postpartum.

Our Standard: We do not believe in flipping insurance ‘on’ at transfer and ‘off’ at delivery. A compassionate surrogacy plan ensures that if a surrogate requires extended medical or income support down the track due to the pregnancy, the funding framework is alive and active to look after her.

3. Intended Parents Must Anchor the Risk

True parental responsibility begins the moment you decide to bring a child into the world, not at the hospital handover.

If an Intended Parent suffers a critical illness, injury, or passes away during the pregnancy, a massive financial and legal crisis lands squarely on the surrogate's shoulders. She does not want to raise your child, nor should her family face financial strain because the IPs lacked coverage. Therefore, we require Intended Parents to comprehensively insure themselves first to fund nominated guardians and protect their surrogate from the unthinkable.

A Note on Our Client Alignment

Because of our unyielding commitment to the safety of surrogates and the long-term stability of new families, our firm does not implement restricted, short-term, or accident-only surrogacy cover.

  • What we provide: Comprehensive, holistic risk planning, robust estate planning alignment, and extended postpartum protection.
  • What we don't provide: Bare-minimum, cut-corner policies designed purely to bypass legal hurdles at the lowest possible cost.

If you are looking to build a bulletproof, deeply respectful safety net that honors your surrogate’s incredible gift, we are here to champion that journey with you.

Where to Now?
Continue your journey…
